Seven Boilermakers Set for Olympic Trials

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Seven current and former Purdue track & field student-athletes will compete at their respective country's Olympic Trials from June 19-28.
 
Freshman Marcellus Moore and alumna Kara Winger will compete at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, Oregon, while senior Samson Colebrooke, junior Tamar Greene and Purdue alums Devynne Charlton and Kinard Rolle will participate in the Bahamas Olympic Trials. Alumnus Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will compete at the Nigerian Olympic Trials in Lagos, Nigeria.

Marcellus Moore
Moore qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 100-meters. The first round is set for Saturday, June 19, at 8:34 p.m. ET, as the top three finishers in each heat and the next four-fastest finishers advance to the semifinals. The semifinals and final in the event will be held the following day, on June 20, with the semis at 9:19 p.m. ET, and the final at 10:52 p.m. Saturday's first round will be broadcast on NBCSN and Sunday's action will air on NBC.
 
Moore is a two-time All-American, with both honors coming in 2021. He was sixth in the 60-meter final at the NCAA Indoor Championships to earn First Team All-America honors, and helped the 4x100 relay place 19th nationally outdoors to collect Honorable Mention All-America accolades. Moore owns the second-fastest 100-meter time in school history (10.12 seconds) and the fourth-fastest 200 mark (20.55). A four-time Big Ten medalist, Moore and the Boilermakers won gold in the 4x100 relay last month, two weeks before registering the No. 2 time in Purdue history (39.06).
 
Kara (Patterson) Winger
Winger will compete in the javelin at the U.S. Olympic Trials. The qualifying round is on Friday, June 25, at 4 p.m. ET, and the final is on Saturday, June 26, at 8:30 p.m. ET. Javelin competition will be streamed live on NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports App, while Saturday's final also will air on NBC.
 
A three-time Olympian, Winger owns the Purdue (61.56m in 2008) and American (66.67m in 2010) records in the javelin. A 2009 Purdue graduate, she is competing at her fifth Olympic Trials. Winger is an eight-time USATF national champion and has competed at five IAAF World Championships. At the NCAA Championships, Winger won silver in the javelin in 2009 and was fifth in 2008, and she is a two-time Big Ten Outdoor Athlete of the Year. She won Big Ten titles in the javelin in 2005, 2008 and 2009.

Devynne Charlton
Charlton will race in the 100m hurdles, slated for Sunday, June 27, at 2:25 p.m. ET, at the Bahamas trials.
 
The nine-time All-American is a school record-holder in the 100 hurdles (12.70) and 100m (11.22). Charlton also holds the sixth-fastest time in the 200m (23.61) and was a member of seven of Purdue's nine-fastest 4x100 relay teams. She was the NCAA runner-up in the 100m hurdles in 2018 and in the 60m hurdles in 2017. Charlton is an 11-time Big Ten champion and was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Year three times. She is a two-time World Championships qualifier and competed twice at the Pan American Games.
 
Samson Colebrooke
Two weeks after his final collegiate meet, Colebrooke will run in the 100m, 200m and 4x100 at the Bahamas Olympic Trials. The 100m heats and final are set for Friday, June 25, at 7:05 and 9:45 p.m, respectively. The 200m heats are on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., with the final on Sunday at 5:20 p.m.. The 4x100 will take place on Monday, June 28.
 
A 2021 Purdue graduate, Colebrooke was a two-time Honorable Mention All-American outdoors in 2021, in the 200m and 4x100 relay. A six-time All-America honoree as a Boilermaker, Colebrooke has the second-fastest 200m (20.46) and third-fastest 100m (10.18) times in school history. He also contributed to three of the four-fastest 4x100 marks and three of the six-fastest 4x400 times, highlighted by the 4x100 record of 38.75. Colebrooke is a five-time Big Ten medalist and two-time champion in the 4x100.
 
Tamar Greene
Greene will compete in the triple jump at the Bahamas trials, scheduled for Sunday, June 27, at 4:20 p.m.
 
A five-time All-American, Greene earned first team honors indoors and second team accolades outdoors in the triple jump this year. After winning the Big Ten triple jump title outdoors, he finished 13th at NCAAs, while he was seventh nationally indoors after claiming bronze at Big Tens. Greene has won a total of five Big Ten medals with three golds. In the record books, he is second indoors (16.28m) and fifth outdoors (16.17m) in the triple jump and has the record in the 4x100 (38.75).
 
Kinard Rolle
Rolle will race in the 400m and 4x400 at the Bahamas Olympic Trials. The 400m finals are on Friday at 8:45 p.m., and the 4x400 final is on Sunday at 5:40 p.m.
 
Rolle ranks fourth and fifth in school history in the 4x400 relay, and also holds five top-four indoor marks, two individually. He raced at three NCAA meets in the 4x400, two East Prelims and the 2016 indoor championships, which came, two weeks after he broke the school record in 3:06.59. Rolle won the Big Ten bronze medal in the 4x400 outdoors in 2017 and indoors in 2016, and the 2017 time of 3:05.65 was second-fastest in program history at the time.
 
The Bahama Olympic team will be named in the days following the trials.

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi
Currently a volunteer assistant coach with the Boilermakers, Enekwechi will compete in the shot put at the Nigerian Olympic Trials. The final will be held at 5:05 a.m. ET.
 
A 12-time All-American and five-time NCAA medalist, Enekwechi has represented Nigeria at four World Championships. He owns the school record in the shot put (20.37m) and hammer throw (72.77m) outdoors and shot put (19.95m) and weight throw (24.39m) indoors. Enekwechi's NCAA medals include two silvers in 2016, in the shot put outdoors and in the weight throw indoors. He won 12 Big Ten medals, including four golds, and was a three-time Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year.
