PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The No. 21 Purdue wrestling team opened the 2021-22 season with a 29-18 win at Drexel, winning six of the 10 matches to improve to 1-0. Seniors Parker Filius and Michael Woulfe highlighted the dual with falls, while freshman Matt Ramos added a technical fall in his Boilermaker debut.

The Boilermakers raced out to a 14-0 lead behind wins at 125, 133 and 141, but the Dragons came storming back with consecutive wins from 149 to 174 to take an 18-14 edge. Momentum came back to Purdue's side over the final three matches with a decision, a default and a fall to seal the victory. The Boilermakers have now won their season-opening dual in eight straight years under head coach Tony Ersland.

Filius stormed out to a 7-3 lead over Tyler Williams before whipping him to his back for the fall at 2:51, the sixth of his career. Woulfe needed only 1:19 to earn the fall in his Purdue debut and first collegiate match since 2016, sealing the win for the Boilermakers and notching the 25th of his career. Ramos put together a highlight reel in his first match at Purdue, storming out to a 10-2 lead in the first, adding six more in the second and posting a takedown in the third to finish it up.

Seniors Devin Schroder and Max Lyon earned decisions at 125 and 184, respectively. Schroder opened the dual with a 6-0 win, while Lyon turned the tide at 184, halting the Dragons' win streak with a 10-8 sudden victory over No. 29 Bryan McLaughlin. Boilermaker junior Thomas Penola had a 7-1 lead at 197 pounds before accepting an injury default from Sean O'Malley. Purdue's Alec White was on the other end of an injury default, headed toward overtime in a 1-1 tie late in the third before the match had to be stopped.

The Boilermakers are back in action at 8 p.m. ET, heading up the road to Rider University for a dual with the Broncs. The dual will air live on ESPN+.
